The Cycle of Transmisogyny
- The CAMAB trans person’s gender identity is erased, and they are viewed as a man
- Being a man, they are held to binarist standards of masculinity
- Being that they present themselves in a feminine manner, their masculinity is nonexistent
- As a male’s masculinity (or, perceived male’s) is fundamental to his legitimacy, the CAMAB trans person is debased and marginalized.
When a trans woman does not present as feminine, transmisogyny can still occur against her in the following system:
- The trans woman’s gender identity is taken into consideration
- The trans woman does not present in a feminine manner
- Being that they do not present themselves in a feminine manner, they are not truly female since they are not devoted enough to “femaleness” to present as such
- The trans woman’s gender identity is erased, and they are viewed as a man
This creates a vicious double standard which asserts that CAMAB trans people can be neither feminine, nor androgynous, nor masculine, as with any of these, they are “doing gender” incorrectly.
