if brandishing a gun and destroying your kid’s stuff when they piss you off (otherwise known as threatening with violence and intimidation) isn’t abuse then what is? the fact that this guy can upload a video of this on the internet and get widespread praise is a product of abuse culture intersecting with ageism and misogyny.
in what world is this shit okay? newsflash, fear of violence can cause serious psychological problems. living in a violent, hostile environment with people who have a great deal of power—physical, age, legal, financial—over you, can fuck you up. i would know. i lived it for 19 years. my father didn’t have to lay a hand on me because seeing him do it to my mother, being threatened with it, was enough. i can’t imagine how much worse it would have been if he’d kept a gun in the house.
and yeah, having my parents destroy my belongings or hold that threat over my head to control me was absolutely a way they abused me.
so disgusted right now.
