LOL, yeah, I always think of it more as “SUCKS THE JOY FROM EVERYTHING.” But I *always* get on people’s cases — usually quite shocking them — when they say “that sucks nuts,” by responding aggressively “and what exactly is wrong with sucking nuts?”
Exactly.
kalamah replied to your post: I think I’m gonna try to stop using “sucks” as a synonym for “bad”.
Huh, in my personal definition I always thought of sucks as in “sucks like quicksand” or similar, and not sexual. o.0 /asexual definitions
Ah, I never thought of that definition; thank you. I’m pretty sure most people would relate it to the sex act, though, so...
I think I'm gonna try to stop using "sucks" as a...
Honestly, this use of “sucks” has been bugging me for a while, because it implies that giving oral sex to someone with a penis is somehow bad. Hence, it appears to be rooted in cissexist misogyny/homophobia (i.e., “sucking is bad because it’s something women and gays do”), which, y’know. I’m not cool with that.
And yes, I’m aware that there are also...

How often do you use “fuck you” or hear someone else say “fuck you”? I’m guilty of it, I do it quite often. I’m always spewing out “fuck that!” or “fuck hate!” or “fuck (insert unpleasant concept/thing/person here)” But only lately have I begun to analyze my use of that language. “Fuck” represents...

Basically, the people I like are people who are more interested in becoming right than they are in just demanding everyone see them as right. Those who prioritize learning and self-improvement can still cause harm, of course, but what matters most to me is that they’re constantly trying not to.

this ain’t livin’: The Face of Exploitation
The exploitation of farm workers in the United States is something I’ve discussed before, and I’ve also discussed how difficult it is to escape exploitative labour practices. Yet, it’s something that doesn’t get as much attention as animal exploitation, by and large, unless you happen to be moving in a circle where people care...

California Inmates Receive Mental Health Care... →
Perhaps the saddest thing of all is that with prison inmates being so disproportionately low-income, and mental health services being so inaccessible to those without insurance (and even many with), these sessions are the only form of mental health care that many of these patients can ever hope to receive. And they’re getting it not only within the racist, classist, ableist, misogynistic,...
In the early eighties, there was a report, written for the US Government, called Technology on the Social and Ethical Aspects of Transsexual Surgery. This report argued that transition-related treatments were medically unnecessary. As a result, consideration of federal and state aid for trans people was dropped, and private insurance companies quickly followed suit, disingenuously expanding the...

If you are transgender, you are more likely to be incarcerated, as discussed above. Why Cote D’Ivoire Matters →
The incumbent president Laurent Gbagbo lost a November 28 election to challenger Alasanne Ouatarra. Gbagbo is refusing to step down and is using his control of the army to foment violence, including direct assaults on the building in which Outarra has set up his government in waiting. This kind of election related violence is nothing new for Africa. A similar situation unfolded in Kenya in late...

Shoulda guessed the Pokemon one, lol. <3 And I hope the new Kirby turns out to be good!
Xbox Live has this service called Indie Games, where small-time developers release their little games for very low prices (between $1 and $5). And while there are quite a few not-so-great games on there, there are also some I’ve discovered that I’ve enjoyed, and considered worth the pittance they costed. I think it’s a pretty cool little thing, myself.

Yeah, I mean from a designer perspective I can understand some of the high prices? Cause they have to pay all the developers and designers who work on it. But it’s still excessive. I’ve been loving my Steam account. So many cheap gamessss.

zenami replied to your post: Why do games have to be so freaking expensive?
A question I ask myself daily.
Like, I sort of understand why, in the early cartridge-based days, they’d have had to charge a lot: the hardware for those things was expensive, and early cartridge games would also often include custom hardware, etc. But, I mean, eventually almost everything moved to discs and...
